I have no reservations about writing about Christmas, after all it is December and I am now ready to embrace the festive season. First the tree, off we go with a group of friends to the Christmas Tree Farm with our spade and saw to cut down our nordman spruce. I love decorating the tree with a few glasses of bubbles, bublé blaring, my cheeks a glow and loving life. As I am not hosting Christmas this year, I have more time to focus on me! I need to purchase the presents and a few outfits for all the festivities. The beauty regime gets a turbo boost, one needs to look glossy and gorgeous for all the instasnappers. OK, so this all sounds very self-indulgent, shouldn’t Christmas be about spreading goodwill to all?
Christmas does come with high expectations of perfect, happy families enjoying luxurious celebrations and gifts, but there are so many people that could not be further from this ideal. Christmas can intensify feeling of grief, sadness and loneliness. I am very lucky, but I am aware of the need within the community, specifically at this time of year. There are endless opportunities to give to your community but it can be hard to know where to begin. Here are a few ideas to spread some festive cheer near our salons in Reigate, Banstead and Wallington.
The Giving Local People a Christmas campaign is the result of a joint effort from five East Surrey- based charities to encourage donations in the run up to and throughout the Christmas period. To find out more www.varb.org.uk or pop into your local Reigate or Banstead salon and pick up a flyer.
